Exclusive: Battlefield Vietnam without CTF and TDM

The next Battlefield game will include two new gameplay modes, but CTF and TDM are gone.

In an exclusive Boomtown interview, Battlefield Vietnam lead designer AJ Marini, has revealed that the sequel to the highly popular Battlefield 1942 will ship without the Capture the Flag and Team Death Match modes. The reason for this move is simply that nearly all gamers prefer the Conquest mode.

- There is such a small percentage of people who played Capture the Flag and Team Death Match that we decided to drop those game modes all together, AJ Marini said.

However, two new (and hopefully cool) modes will be implemented: Evolution and Custom Combat. Evolution will work a bit like the Campaign mode in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory:

- In Evolution, the game spans across two historically tied maps. The scores from the first map, player and team, are then carried over to the second, AJ Marini explained.

Custom Combat, as the name implies, allows the server to customize the battle so it isn’t the same as the default. You are not limited to only changing armies, vehicles. In fact you can even exclude specific weapons or complete classes. So if you feel like a knife fight with only U.S. soldiers, you can do that.

This is just a small part of the exclusive interview, which we will post very soon.

Never played the two modes anyway, so no difference to me there...

The Custom mode should be transfered to regular Battlefield though, we need limits on snipers on some maps.

True. In fact the custom mode could potentially allow any server admin to tweak a BF game right into what he wanted to emphasize. So you could arrange massive tank battles, or guns only fun nights. :)

This Custom thing looks extremely interesting and should make for some very entertaining settings. But the question is still: Will BF Vietnam replace traditional BF ?
