Battlefield 1942 developer, Digital Illusions, have entered an agreement with the Desert Combat team, Trauma Studios, which will result in a yet-unspecified game. The two companies will develop the title together, however Digital Illusions will pay the estimated costs of $550.000 during the next 12 months.

“We soon became aware of the Desert Combat mod’s brilliance. The mod has contributed significantly to Battlefield 1942’s popularity and has helped us selling many games,” said Digital Illusions’ Patrick Söderlund.

Trauma Studios have specialised in developing strategy- and wargames. The have registered more than 3 million downloads of the Desert Combat mod so far.

Thanks for the heads up, Andy!

I knew it would happen eventually. BF has gone from the past onwards, whereas DC started from the present. They made a great mod, so great that there is no way Digital Illusions could match it if they tried. As they say: If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

this can be a good thing. the same way the Day of Defeat team was hired by Valve. more funding means faster updates and better equipment. hopefully they will start working on the DC for BF:V but not ignore the mod we have now. can't wait to see how this pans out
