Konami have announced Apocalyptica, which will be released for PC and Xbox. This will be the first game from Konami of Europe to support Xbox Live. Apocalyptica is being developed by Telford-based Extreme FX and is a third-person action game. It’s set in a dark future, where Satan himself tries to take over the entire Galaxy with his troops.

Interestingly you will be able to choose between joining an elite military group, which tries to free the planets under the rule of the Dark Lord, or joining the forces of Satan. You can choose between 16 good and 16 evil characters and must guide them and three comrades through the game.

Apocalyptica uses a graphic engine called Evolution FX, which features free-roaming action and a high level of aesthetic detail to bring Satan’s realm (Nu-Hades) to life. You’ll fight in strongholds, sewers and wastelands.

The game is not just an action title – it features elements of exploration as well as combat elements. This means that you must find keys and perform certain duties while fighting the other faction. Each character is equipped with projectile and handheld weaponry and some can also wield magic. Of course you can also go online, since the game supports a maximum of 32 players. The Xbox version is limited to eight players, though.

Apocalyptica will be released for PC in September, with an Xbox version to follow.
